UDA questions Sakaja's loyalty over county appointments

UDA questions Sakaja's loyalty to the party as they issue him with ultimatums over county appointments

UDA questions Sakaja’s loyalty to the party as they issue him with ultimatums over county appointments.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja is facing yet another hurdle over the appointment of county Chief Executive Officers (CEO).

This comes after a group of Nairobi County Assembly (MCA) members gave the governor a one-month ultimatum to respond to their demand for an explanation of the criteria he used to appoint officials for the various county departments.

The MCAs claimed that the governor ignored the party stance in the appointments and neglected to include them in the process.

The UDA MCAs accused Sakaja of favouring the Azimio la Umoja Coalition in his appointments hence casting doubts over his loyalty to the Kenya Kwanza Coalition which sponsored him to the position during the August 9 polls.

“He was elected on a UDA ticket but he has never consulted anyone from the party before making appointments. We are giving him one month to come out and declare that he belongs in the Azimio coalition so that we can know the next course of action,” said Mr. Kiragu.

“Nairobi City cannot be [run] with public relations gimmicks. He has taken long to even create his government and there is no tangible development project he has done. He has a budget; why is he not focusing on solving people’s problems? Will he continue to blame former President Uhuru Kenyatta?” Mr. Kiragu asked.

Let him reach out to the party leadership and apologize for what he has done and rectify. The party mobilized voters in Nairobi who believed in him because he used the UDA flag,” Minority Chief Whip, Mark Ronaldo Mugambi said.

The Kenya Kwanza MCAs also snubbed a special session last week during which the assembly approved the names of 28 Chief Officers nominated by Johnson Sakaja.
