We’ve no regrets for working with Ruto government; Opiyo Wandayi tells ODM critics
Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi hitS out at critics who’ve been condemning Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leaders for working with Ruto government.
In a fiery speech during the second edition of the Sigand Nyi Nam (Daughters of the Lake) Convention on Friday, December 6, Wandayi claimed there is a concerted effort by certain entities to undermine the efforts of ODM leaders, especially now that opposition leader Raila Odinga’s Nyanza region is supporting the current administration.
Wandayi argued that the attacks on Ruto were rooted in tribal politics, with many criticising his move to include Nyanza in his broad-based government.
He claimed that some critics were reacting negatively simply because the Luo community, historically opposition-leaning, was now finding its place in government.
“Why is it that when the Luo community is in government, it is bad, but when they are on the streets fighting the existing administration, all these other voices support the state claiming it is good? Right now that Rigathi Gachagua has been impeached and the Luo people are finding their feet in government, now the government is bad,” Wandayi posed.

Wandayi, who has also faced criticism for his decision to join Ruto’s cabinet, dismissed claims that the ODM’s involvement in the government would compromise its opposition role.
He stated that being in government does not mean they cannot continue to advocate for the rights of Kenyans.
The CS, who joined Ruto’s Cabinet along with former ODM party leader John Mbadi, stated that they have no regrets about taking the jobs.
“We can continue to fight for rights of our people even within government, we can continue to fight for human rights while in government, but it cannot be a crime to be in government. We are not ashamed, we have no regrets whatsoever, and have no apologies for having made a conscious decision to work from within the government under the leadership of our leader Raila Odinga,” he said.
