James Gakuya expresses fears that DP Rigathi Gachagua may not survive the impeachment motion against him.

Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya who also happens to be one of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies on Tuesday gave the clearest indication that the DP’s camp might have resigned to the fate that there is very little they can do to stop the looming impeachment motion.

Speaking during a panel discussion on TV47, the legislator faulted the National Assembly leadership for displaying partisan politics on the contentious matter.

Gakuya noted that the decision by Speaker Moses Wetangula and his deputy, Gladys Boss to pronounce themselves on the matter compromised the integrity of the motion which is set to be tabled today.

The vocal MP stated that Wetangula’s move to support Gachagua’s impeachment was a clear indication there the deputy president’s fate had already been sealed.

“The Speaker Moses Wetangula and his Deputy Gladys Boss Shollei pronounced themselves on the impeachment of DP Rigathi Gachagua, they were very clear that the die is cast,” Gakuya stated.

‘Their sentiments clearly show that the knives have been sharpened; there is no option, the die is cast and he must be sacrificed,” he added.

Gakuya’s sentiments were backed by former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu who claimed that President William Ruto was the main person behind DP Gachagua’s current woes.

According to Mutambu, this was because the Head of State allegedly believed that the deputy president was part of the recent anti-government protestors who wanted Ruto out of power.

The latest sentiments by the two MPs come hours ahead of the tabling of a motion to impeach Rigathi Gachagua from his current position.

On Sunday, September 29, Speaker Moses Wetangula expressed his support for the impeachment of the deputy president over claims of creating disunity in the country.

While speaking at Wamunyu Catholic Church in Machakos County, Wetangula argued that anyone who attempted to create chaos should be stopped.

“We must know that our diversity is the source of our strength and that is how we shall live. If there is anyone who wants to disrupt the peace of the nation, they should be removed because we want peace for everybody,” Wetangula stated.
