Dennis Itumbi heckled by university students as he defends JKIA takeover by Adani.
Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects Dennis Itumbi faced a rough time defending the proposed leasing of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport when addressing university students.
Boos and jeers rent the air as university students mobilised to attend a UDA function at the Bomas of Kenya interrupted his speech.
Itumbi was attempting to justify that the proposed takeover by Adani Enterprises Limited was good for the country.
He was explaining that neighbouring Rwanda is building a brand new airport to get to where Kenya is but some leaders are opposing the expansion of JKIA.
He added that Ethiopia is building an airport that will be one of the biggest in Africa.
The privatisation deal, which would grant Adani control of the airport for 30 years, has ignited widespread public outrage over its secrecy and potential consequences.

Airport workers have protested, demanding the plan be scrapped.
Adani has pledged a Sh238 billion investment to “upgrade and expand” the airport.
The Kenya Human Rights Commission and Law Society of Kenya moved to court to stop the deal, arguing that leasing a strategic and profitable Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to a private entity is irrational.
Adani submitted a proposal on March 1, 2024, to take over the running and management of JKIA.
The firm has denied reports that its proposal for the JKIA takeover was cleared in 17 days.
The company explained that what was cleared in 17 days by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) was the feasibility study proposal.
KAA has been facing scrutiny over the takeover approval process.
