A 22-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend along Kirichwa Road in Kilimani, Nairobi.
Police said both the man and the deceased woman worked for a money-lending company.
The incident happened on Thursday, May 14, 2026, evening as the woman and her friends walked towards Argwings Kodhek direction from their place of work.
She had left their place of work oblivious of the plans by the man she once dated and had broken up with.
He was unhappy that the woman had broken up with him, police said on preliminary findings.
According to her friends, she and the man had separated, and she moved from his house in Kawangware area to her aunt’s home in the area.
According to police, it is not clear what caused the separation, but the friends said their relationship was toxic.
Colleagues said the woman had resumed work on May 14 after being away for weeks.
The assailant was also in the office during which a meeting was held to solve their differences, police said.
He had come to work while armed with a knife, police said.
After the day’s work, Auna and the colleagues left on foot.
It was then that the assailant trailed her, stabbed her multiple times and slit her throat.

She tried to run to a nearby clinic for help, but collapsed outside there and bled to death, witnesses said.
The assailant tried to escape the scene but was restrained by members of the public as police arrived. He did not have any injury.
Kilimani police boss Patricia Yegon said the man was unharmed after the incident, disputing claims he tried to die by suicide.
She said the suspect was taken to a hospital, found fit and taken back to the cells.
“The blood stains that he had were from the slain woman,” said Yegon.
She added that the murder is linked to a toxic relationship and said the man would be taken to court for murder.
The body of the woman was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
