Former principal of a prestigious school arrested over KCSE exam malpractice

A former principal of a prestigious school has been arrested over his alleged involvement in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination malpractice.

The suspect was arrested in Embu County on Tuesday, May 26, by detectives and is expected to be arraigned alongside a staff member linked to the school.

The two are being investigated for their alleged involvement in activities that compromised the integrity of last year’s national examinations.

The former school head is particularly accused of projecting exam answers onto a large television screen for students before the examinations were conducted in November 2025.

Following the reports, detectives raided the institution to make arrests, but the principal fled the scene, thereby evading the authorities.

He was later relieved of his duties by the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC), even as the investigation into the matter continued.

Before being accused of malpractice, the school made a remarkable debut by outshining academic giants in the 2024 KCSE exams.

It got an impressive A- (minus) mean grade of 10.5686,

surpassing schools like Alliance High, Kenya High, and Starehe Boys to emerge as the top-performing school in the country.

The move came a year after the teacher resigned from his principal position at Alliance School to lead the school.

His arrest comes at a time when detectives are making crackdowns on fake certification, making arrests on those alleged to have fraudulently acquired employment using fake KCSE certificates.
