All KCSE candidates can join tertiary institutions, KUCCPS says
KUCCPS has said all KCSE candidates can be accommodated in tertiary institutions.
It said Kenya has the capacity to accommodate all Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination candidates.
Dr Mercy Wahome, CEO of Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, said that all KCSE exam takers have the opportunity to enroll in institutions of higher learning to follow a course of their choosing.
According to her, KUCCPS may put students in private and public colleges and universities for government-approved courses.
Dr Wahome advised teachers to continue submitting course application forms that students filed before the exams began in the KUCCPS systems before the window shuts on April 1 in Nakuru, where he oversaw the opening and distribution of KCSE materials.
Students would be given the opportunity to amend their courses after the results are released in April, she stated.
“We have opportunities in both government and private institutions for all the 800,000 candidates sitting the exams, as we do not have a shortage of colleges, universities and TVETs (Technical and Vocational Education and Training),” she said.
She stated that the majority of students are unaware of the government’s chances, and that students will be encouraged to enroll in courses that will aid them in their professions.
She urged students to reconsider their views on technical degrees like agriculture, which are part of the government’s Big Four program.
According to Dr. Wahome, the bulk of applications received by KUCCPS are for medical, nursing, and engineering courses.
“We have so far received about 50,000 applications for nursing and medicine and over 5,000 for engineering courses. We are encouraging students to think outside courses as the world is changing,” she said.
She urged students, with the help of their career teachers, to continue filing their applications in the KUCCPS system, which I open to schools until April.
