Crowd comes to the rescue of human rights activist Boniface Mwangi during an attempted arrest.
Attempts by police officers to arrest activist Boniface Mwangi during a peaceful march in Nairobi flopped after onlookers and protesters resisted the move.
According to Sema Ukweli, a human rights media organisation, Mwangi alongside other protesters was en route to President William Ruto’s office to deliver a petition for missing persons in the country.
However, during the march, some officers attempted to arrest the activists.
According to the organisation, the police did not explain why they wanted to arrest the activist.
“The peaceful assembly was violently disrupted when a group of masked men appeared out of nowhere and attempted to forcefully abduct activist Boniface Mwangi,” read the statement in part.
“They were thwarted by the crowd, however, although Fredrick Onjiro of Haki Africa was driven away in a police van.”
In a separate incident captured at the protests, Activist Hanifa Adan was filmed confronting officers who attempted to arrest her alongside other protesters for marching in the protests.

The activists held a peaceful march following the alleged disappearance of some Kenyans.
The allegations of state-enforced disappearance have, however, been dismissed by top government officials including President William Ruto himself.
“If there’s any family whose child, friend, or relative attended a demonstration, whether last year or this year and never returned, I want to know the names because I will take firm and decisive action,” Ruto stated during a town hall meeting in Kisumu County in August.
“As of now, I do not have a single name of someone who has been abducted or disappeared.”
