Donald Trump appoints Elon Musk to key role in his administration
United States President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to lead a newly formed commission, Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
In a statement dated November 12, Trump announced that Musk will lead the commission alongside American politician and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
According to the president-elect, DOGE will aid in reducing government waste and dismantling government bureaucracy.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies—essential for the ‘Save America’ movement,” Trump remarked.
He quoted Musk as saying, “This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in government waste, which is a lot of people.”
However, Trump disclosed that DOGE will provide advice and guidance from ‘outside government’ but will partner with the White House to drive large-scale structural reforms.

“Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of DOGE for a long time. To drive this kind of drastic change, DOGE will provide advice and guidance from outside of government and will partner with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to drive large-scale structural reform and create an entrepreneurial approach to government never seen before,” Trump explained.
The president-elect noted that he was confident in the duo’s capabilities in making changes to the federal bureaucracy and added that their work would conclude no later than July 4, 2026.
“They will work together to liberate our economy. A smaller government with more efficiency and less bureaucracy will be the perfect gift for America on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. I am confident they will succeed,” he added.
Musk, who also owns X (formerly known as Twitter), has been outspoken on the platform, often supporting the Republican presidential candidate who ultimately won the election.
