A village in Embu County has been thrown into shock after a 26-year-old man killed his 24-year-old wife in front of his two children aged 9 years and 5 years.

The man is said to have committed the heinous act in Iravari village, Embu county, in the presence of the children.

An elder brother of the suspect told the press on Tuesday that after committing the act, the suspect went to see him while carrying a panga which is believed to be the tool used in the crime.

”This is my brother and I am the eldest. I got information that he killed his wife. He initially came to my house with a panga, I did not know what was his intention and when I heard the news, I was baffled,” Stephen Nyaga, the brother stated.

“He also cut the house help on the hand, neck, and fingers and has since been rushed to the hospital. I reported this to the police earlier after he showed anger issues as a result of bhang use,” he added.

Nyaga further revealed that his brother has been a drug addict gravitating around bhang. He noted that the suspect once exhibited dangerous behaviours, something that prompted him to inform the authorities.

According to police reports, the man has been arrested and is currently being held at a police station in Embu as police begin investigations into the matter.

The source of the tensions between the couple, however, was not immediately clear.

”We heard screams from the children. My wife saw him argue with the house help and we immediately came here where we found that he had already killed the wife,” Njeru Magara, a neighbour, narrated.

The neighbours revealed that the suspect, however, enjoyed good relations with his neighbours and even served as a security detail to a prominent politician from the region who is a Member of Parliament.

Embu County has been in the spotlight over increased violence instances with two people reportedly having been shot by a police officer after an argument ensued in a local club.

One of the victims, however, succumbed to the injuries as the other was rushed to hospital in time and doctors managed to stabilise him.

Catherine Nyaga, the mother of the deceased, said that the officer shot her son, 43-year-old Ephantus Muriithi Nyaga, in the head killing him.

The officer who was arrested and taken to court was denied bond and detained for 14 days as police completed their investigations, according to a court ruling made on Tuesday, November 12.
