Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lauded his boss President William Ruto for surprise action to fire all the Cabinet Secretaries.
In his speech, Gachagua suggested the previous composition of government was not keen on helping the president in delivering his agenda to the country.
Appearing to settle scores with some figures in the dismissed Cabinet who were opposed to him, the deputy president accused the outgoing CSs of getting fixated on politics at the expense of undertaking their duties.
“We are supporting you 100% in your decision to disband your Cabinet to reconstitute a new one that will help you in working for Kenyans. The CSs who are not arrogant and who are not politicking, those who will be with you to help you steer the country. Ours is to assure you of our total support as you reconstitute your government so that you will get a good team that will create efficiency, and harmony and which will put Kenyans before their interests,” said Gachagua.
The deputy president was speaking on Saturday, July 13, in Elgeyo Marakwet, where he had accompanied the president on a working tour.
At the same time, the president lauded his move to send all the CSs home saying it was in the best interest of the country.
He promised to put together a competent team that will help serve Kenyans and actualize his agenda to the country.
Ruto restated his resolve to unite the country.

“I want to assure you that as agreed, you have seen what I did, I want to plan this government effectively. I now want us to unite as Kenyans so that we can participate in the affairs of the country. I don’t want divisions; all Kenyans will work on the same side so that we harness all the potential we have so that we build our economy, create jobs, manage debt, deal firmly and decisively with corruption and make sure that Kenya marches forward because we have great potential,” he said.
On July 11, Ruto sent home all Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General Justin Muturi, citing feedback from an unimpressed Kenyan public.
Only Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was spared in the purge.
“I have today, in line with the powers given to me by article 152 (1) and 152 (5b) of the constitution and section 12 of the office of the Attorney General’s act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney General of the cabinet of Kenya except the Prime Secretary and Secretary for Foreign Affairs and the office of the Deputy President is not affected in any way,” said Ruto.
The Head of State went on to say he would be engaging in extensive consolations across different sectors and political formations to set up a new and broad-based government.
