DP Gachagua insists on government shareholding in apparent response to President Ruto as he seeks more resources for Mt Kenya

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stressed his remarks that liken the government to a shareholding limited company.

Speaking in Tigania East on Saturday, October 7, when he graced a funeral event, the deputy president said he would continue to push for the increase in the shares of the Mt Kenya constituents in the government.

Gachagua stressed government is a shareholding entity and belongs primarily to those who voted for it.

“We will make sure we increase our shareholding in this government from 47 percent to almost 60 percent. Many people are uncomfortable about our shareholding; ni kidogo, its only 47…tutaongeza ikuwe mingi zaidi,” he said.

He stated that Mt. Kenya has benefitted immensely from President Ruto’s administration, adding that his responsibility remains to bring the 13 percent who voted for the opposition in last year’s General Election to President Ruto’s camp and head into the elections in 2027 with a united front.

“I will not allow, under my leadership, divisions between Mt Kenya East and West. The Mountain is one. Working with elders from Njuri Ncheke, Kiama Kia Ma, professionals, business community, and social groups, I want this region to deliver a decisive vote in 2027 to President Ruto and increase our investment in Kenya Kwanza administration,” he said.

“We have no apologies to make in investing in President Ruto. We are happy with what is going on so far and we have every intention to increase our support for him.”

Gachagua’s remarks come ostensibly as an indirect response to President William Ruto, who while on day one of his Nyanza visit on Friday, said Kenya is not a limited shareholding entity and that all Kenyans are equal.

“It is primitive and backward for anybody to imagine that any region of Kenya cannot get development on account of how they voted. I want to assure the people of Kenya that we will move together as one nation,” President Ruto said.
