Government announces leadership changes in 8 public universities
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced fresh appointments and reappointments to the leadership of eight public universities in the latest round of government appointments.
The changes, gazetted on June 26, affect the governing councils of Maasai Mara University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), and South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU).
The appointments and reappointments also extend to Pwani University, Kisii University, Turkana University, and Chuka University.
Among the changes, Professor Geoffrey Ole Maloiy has been appointed the new Chairperson of the Maasai Mara University Council for a three-year term.
Millicent Leila Lenguris has also been appointed as a member of the council.
At the same time, the CS appointed Susan Chebet, Elizabeth Ayoo, Dickson Malanga Shikanga, and Agnes Busienei as council members for the Narok-based university for another three-year term.
At JKUAT, Joel Yego and Velma Mudanyi Mudasa have been reappointed as members of the university council, while JOOUST retained David Oyugi, Joan Odawa, Ambassador Ambeyi Ligavo, Isaac Kiprop Chebon, and Willis Gesami Omwoyo as council members.
SEKU also retained Esther Wanjiru as a member of its governing council for another three years.
In the coastal region, the CS reappointed Professor Mohamed Salim Badamana as council chairperson of Pwani University alongside Ambassador Benjamin Mweri, Sang David, Fatma Mohammed, and Japhet Mvoyi Ria as council members.

At Kisii University, Sara Ruto was reappointed as the Chairperson of the council, while Samson Muchelule was reappointed as a council member.
In the Rift Valley region, Peter Ndemo has been retained as the council chairperson of Turkana University alongside Jared Oyier, Shadrack Kemoi, Kimutai Biwott, and Carolyne Ekwon, who will continue serving as council members.
Meanwhile, Chuka University retained Professor David Serem as the council chairperson, together with Crispus Ndeke, Linet Maganda, Samuel Gitonga, Zephania Mbaka, and Margaret Makhungu as members of the council.
In separate appointments, Treasury CS John Mbadi reappointed Nicholas Kamuya Ng’arua to the board of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and four other members to the Insurance Regulatory Authority board.
