Governor Waiguru endorsed for national leadership position ahead of the 2027 elections
Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru has been endorsed for a national leadership position ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the G7 Strategy activation event held in Kirinyaga County on Thursday, September 26, six governors, deputy governors, county women representatives, and senior government officials expressed their support for Waiguru’s candidacy for a higher position, citing her commendable contributions both as the governor and leader of COG.
The leaders noted that her exemplary performance as governor should serve as a foundation for her advancement into national politics.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga noted that Waiguru had dedicated herself to serving her county and should be given an opportunity to contribute at the national level in any capacity.
Wanga’s sentiments were echoed by Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who said she would implement some of Kirinyaga’s projects in her county.
“Governor Anne Waiguru is a worker. We are here to learn and sharpen each other. We have just seen the Kerugoya Hospital where I got to witness its initiation and I am happy that it was completed and well-equipped. The standards in that hospital are only equitable to those in some of the biggest hospitals in this country,” remarked Wavinya.
On the other hand, Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani stated that the governor serves as an exemplary mentor and a role model, having been a strong advocate for women’s leadership.
“We are saying that Governor Anne Waiguru has come of age for national politics,” Achani said.
National Defense CS Soipan Tuya also heaped praise on Waiguru stating that the type of work accomplished by the governor can only be effectively performed by a woman.
She added that the G7 strategy is an appropriate mechanism to facilitate the election of more women into leadership roles.
Additionally, Women Representatives who graced the event praised Waiguru’s development record and expressed that other women would benefit from her accomplishments.
“We have seen the good work that Waiguru has done and we are saying the future is women. Come 2032 and the President shall be a woman and Waiguru will be there,” Nyandarua County Women Representative Faith Gitau said.

Nairobi Women Rep Esther Pasaris and Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda highlighted Waiguru’s contributions to the national government, particularly through the establishment of Huduma Centers.
Ida Odinga, the patron of G7, expressed her admiration for Waiguru’s record of development, stating that she is well-qualified to advance to the next level.
She emphasized G7’s commitment to empowering women to pursue political positions, with the objective of achieving and exceeding the two-thirds gender threshold.
Additionally, Ahmed Abdullahi, the Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Governors, along with Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, affirmed their strategic collaboration in promoting the G7 initiative.
Waiguru mentioned that the G7 movement seeks to establish a framework to facilitate collaborative efforts aimed at unlocking the full potential of devolution in Kenya, while also elevating the voices of women in leadership roles.
“We must continue to create enabling spaces and hold the hands of aspiring women to access positions and thrive in them,” Waiguru said.
