Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u announced the disbursement of Ksh10 billion as an allocation for county-level climate change mitigation efforts.
According to a Gazette Notice released on Friday, Ndung’u identified 47 counties and the funds assigned to each for fiscal year 2023/24.
Mombasa and Nairobi were left off of the funding list, as both counties received Ksh 0.
The Ksh10 billion in funding came from three sources: the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA), the German government, and the County Contribution.

Kisii received the largest allocation of Ksh420 million, followed by Migori (Ksh409 million) and Kakamega (Ksh401 million).
Kiambu, Lamu, and Kirinyaga counties received the least amount in the current fiscal year, obtaining Ksh99 million, Ksh82 million, and Ksh82 million respectively.
Counties in the North Rift region received a lump sum, including Garissa (Ksh253 million), Wajir (Ksh259 million), Mandera (Ksh283 million), and Marsabit (Ksh308 million).
Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Nyandarua, and Nyeri also received Ksh138, 143, 136, and 139 million, respectively.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that, pursuant to section 5 (6) (l) (iii) of the County Government Additional Allocations Act, 2024, the conditional allocations financed by proceeds from a World Bank loan for Financing Locally-Led Climate Action – County Climate Resilience Grant have been allocated to the County Governments specified in the third column in the amounts specified in the respective fourth, fifth and sixth columns of the Schedule hereto.”
