Nairobi water lists estates to experience water shortage following Friday’s power national outage.

Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced that several estates in Nairobi will face water shortage or low pressure following Friday’s electricity outage.

In a statement on Sunday, September 1, NCWSC noted that a transformer at the Gigiri Pumping Station failed to energise after power was restored on Saturday morning.

Due to the failure, the company noted that it was unable to pump water from Gigiri reservoir to Kabete reservoir to augment the water supply from Sasumua and Ruiru dams that serve west of the Uhuru highway.

“On Friday, 30 August 2024, from 9.00 p.m., Nairobi City County experienced a power outage alongside the rest of the country. When power resumed at 5.30am, our 5mva 66/3.3kva transformer stepdown at Gigiri Pumping Station failed to energize.

“This being highly specialized equipment, we sought technical assistance from Kenya Power and Lighting Company for fault diagnosis. Since yesterday, we are with Kenya power engineers on-site working,” NCWSC stated.
