McDonald Mariga moves to tribunal to stop FKF disciplinary case
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice President McDonald Mariga has taken his fight to the Sports Dispute Tribunal, seeking to stop disciplinary proceedings that the federation’s own committee has launched against him.
The petition documents filed under case reference on May 27, name the FKF Disciplinary Committee as the main respondent, with the FKF Migori Branch listed as an interested party in the proceedings.
The FKF Disciplinary Committee is the body Mariga is challenging, with Boru cited in both his personal capacity and as an authorised representative of the committee in the petition.
Daniel Ochola Ochali, the Secretary of the FKF Migori Branch, has been formally named as the representative of the interested party, hinting that the dispute may have roots beyond Nairobi’s federation circles.
According to court documents, Mariga’s advocates argue the disciplinary proceedings are unjust, with the petition stating the process against him “violates established rules and regulations” governing the Football Kenya Federation.
At its core, this is not a dispute between outsiders but a clash within the FKF’s own leadership, with a sitting vice president squaring off against the disciplinary arm of the very federation he helps run.
Mariga is facing disciplinary action following the attempt to suspend FKF President Hussein Mohammed and two other officials over alleged fraud.

Consequently, Mariga faced four proposed charges, including conduct prejudicial to the interests of football, bringing the game into disrepute, abuse of office, and failure to act in the best interests of the federation.
On April 24, nine out of fourteen FKF NEC members voted to suspend President Hussein Mohammed, Acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru, and nominate NEC member Abdulahi Yusuf Ibrahim.
The trio faced accusations regarding a Ksh42.8 million fraud scandal involving non-competitive procurement of an insurance policy for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which Kenya co-hosted.
Led by FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga, the dissenting NEC members ordered the officials to step aside and installed Mariga as the acting president.
In a letter penned by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) on May 27, FIFA dismissed the suspension, highlighting that the Mariga-led faction failed to comply with Article 41 of the FKF Constitution.
