President William Ruto’s senior economic advisor, Moses Kuria, has hinted at the formation of a new political coalition ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking during Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga’s Thanksgiving Ceremony on Sunday, November 10, he said a coalition akin to the 2002 rainbow movement was in the making and asked other leaders to join in.
“I was studying math. There is another calculation I am doing; a political calculation. I don’t make mistakes when it comes to politics, if I tell you your wife is pregnant, start buying pampers. 2027, a new nationalist movement, the same as the 2002 rainbow movement is loading. And those who are intelligent should join in because there are people who will cry from outside,” Kuria said.
On the other hand, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma hinted at a coalition between ODM leader Raila Odinga and Ruto by sharing a photo of the two leaders and captioning it, “something is cooking.”
Rumours of a political coalition between ODM and UDA come a month after Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi indicated that ODM will support Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking in Kericho on October 12, 2024, he expressed confidence that the Nyanza region, traditionally an ODM stronghold, will shift its support to Ruto in the upcoming elections.

“I believe that our political partnership will hold strong beyond 2027. We have decided to work with President William Ruto and will stay committed to that cause. We are part and parcel of the government and the government’s foundations remain strong.
“It’s our responsibility to ensure the government remains strong. Let us keep supporting the president so that he can continue leading the government even beyond the next elections. I come from Siaya, Nyanza and we are known to make firm decisions and stand by them. We have decided to work with the president. In the event you hear noises, don’t be troubled, even one bit,” he said.
Wandayi praised Ruto’s move to form a broad-based government, emphasizing its benefits for the country and the importance of national unity and prosperity over individual or party interests.
“You are well aware that I was firmly in the opposition. However, the country is more important than any individual or party. That is why when President William Ruto invited us into his fold, I accepted the offer very fast.
“President Ruto has formed a government that includes every Kenyan and every community, enabling citizens to unite and work together for development,” he added.
