Investigations have been launched after a man lost his life following a fall from the upper floor of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, reportedly fell from the helipad area of the iconic building and landed at the ground-floor entrance.
According to reports, the 11am incident briefly halted proceedings around KICC as members of the public gathered around the area to witness the unfolding scene before police officers eventually secured the location.
Witnesses at the scene claimed the man may have jumped from the top section of the building, although police have yet to independently verify the claims.
Central police commander Stephene Nyakombo has since confirmed the incident, stating that police were still working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the exact floor where the victim fell from.
“We are yet to know more on the suicide incident, including his motive and where he was prior to the fall,” he said.

Moments after the incident, the area around the KICC entrance was cordoned off as forensic teams processed the scene and documented evidence for investigations.
The body has since been moved to the city mortuary, pending identification and a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Since the KICC is heavily rigged with surveillance cameras, the police are also expected to review security footage from the building and interview potential witnesses to determine how the man accessed the upper floors.
Today’s incident is not isolated. In December 2024, a man died instantly after jumping from the 10th floor.
Reports indicate he took a lift to the upper floors before the fatal fall. This was the second such incident at the building within a month.
