Ruto warns ‘powerful persons’ sponsoring Raila’s demonstrations in order to evade paying taxes.
On January 30, President William Ruto issued a warning to a group of ‘powerful persons’ he claimed were funding protests organized by Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
The President was speaking in Mombasa during the National Assembly Post-Election Seminar.
Further admonishing Kenyans who were avoiding paying taxes, Ruto said that their time was up.
“We cannot operate in a space where those in power exempt themselves from paying tax by using all manner of instruments.
“I want to tell those who used to exempt themselves from paying tax that their day is up even if they sponsor demonstrations,” the President warned.
President Ruto further warned that every Kenyan will carry his own fair burden when it came to nation-building.
“This country is not The Animal Farm where some animals were more equal than others,” he remarked.
“I want to assure Kenyans that there will be no additional taxes except those agreed by law,” he added.

The President went on to provide further details on his economic plans for the upcoming fiscal year.
“We must wear clothing that fits us, therefore I’ll make sure there isn’t an excessive budget.
The President said, “I will soon deliver to Kenyans a revised budget that is in line with our available raising measure.”
Ruto took a swipe at the previous administration, saying that it had reckless borrowing habits that endangered the economy.
“When I took office, we needed to borrow Ksh900 billion to fund our budget, which is reckless and irresponsible in my opinion,” he said.
