Several feared dead as LPG tanker rams into multiple vehicles in Mai Mahiu
One person dead with several others injured after a Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker rammed into multiple vehicles in Mai Mahiu.
One person has been confirmed dead and 12 others injured after a Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker lost control and rammed into several vehicles including a 14-seater matatu at the Mai Mahiu escarpment on Wednesday, September 11.
Preliminary reports indicate that the matatu belonging to Galaxy Sacco was knocked from behind and as a result overturned and rolled down the escarpment.
One of the two other vehicles that were involved in the accident was ferrying mourners to a burial in Rongo, Homa Bay County.
Following the accident, well-wishers and rescuers rushed to the scene to help the injured passengers.
The injured were rushed to hospital for immediate medical attention.

The accident comes days after three people were killed after being involved in a road accident at Fort Ternan along the Londiani-Muhoroni highway in Kericho county.
The accident involved a double-cabin pick-up government vehicle and a lorry transporting Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG).
All three occupants of the GK vehicle died on the spot while the driver of the lorry sustained serious injuries.
Kericho County Traffic Enforcement Officer Selina Chirchir confirmed the accident saying the lorry and the pick-up collided head-on.
The driver was rushed to Fort Ternan Sub-county Hospital for treatment while the bodies of the deceased were moved to St Vincent Hospital mortuary in Muhoroni for identification and post-mortem.
