The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) program in Kenya and other countries in Africa will get Ksh12 billion in funding, according to the United States government.

Vice President Kamala Harris said that the funds would be distributed over the course of the following two years while speaking at the US-Africa Leaders Summit on Thursday, December 15.

She specifically mentioned that the funding was intended to connect various beneficiaries with US investors.

“Through the funding, we will expand networking for alumni and connect them with social impact and business investors.

“And in so doing, we will continue to foster the ingenuity and creativity of young African leaders,” she stated.

Additionally, US Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized that many Kenyans have benefited from the program that recognized the numerous innovations that had revolutionized a variety of industries throughout the globe.

“From the tech hubs of Cairo and Nairobi to the incubators of Accra and Cape Town, African innovation benefits the entire world.

“Think of the Kenyan innovators who created a local mobile payment system that transformed global payment systems,” the VP cited.

She also said that the US government would start a brand-new initiative geared at encouraging female entrepreneurs.

The African Women’s Trade and Investment Initiative, according to Kamala, will assist women in Africa in engaging in e-commerce and gaining access to funding and export markets.

The YALI initiative, started by former US President Barrack Obama, sought to empower young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35.

Through the programme, participants are trained in Business and Entrepreneurship, Civic Leadership, and Public Management courses.
