ACK Bungoma Bishop receives KSh 5m donation from Ruto, vows to keep it

President William Ruto donates KSh 5 million to ACK church in Bungoma days after the Catholic church declined his donation
President William Ruto donates KSh 5 million to ACK church in Bungoma days after the Catholic church declined his donation.
On Sunday, December 1, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka delivered Ruto’s donation to St. Chrispinus Anglican Church in Bungoma town.
Handing over the KSh 5 million donation, Lusaka joked, saying he hoped the church would not return the president’s donation.
The Bungoma governor also came to the defence of politicians making contributions to churches, asserting that such gestures align with biblical teachings.
“The president has sent me with his donation of KSh 5 million but I hope the bishop will not return those donations. There is nothing wrong with leaders contributing to God’s work. The Bible encourages us to honour the Lord with our resources,” Lusaka said.
Bungoma Diocese Bishop George Mechumo, who presided over the service, assured Lusaka that he would not decline Ruto’s millions.
He dismissed criticism against church donations, asserting that such contributions are vital for advancing the church’s mission.
“I will not return the donation. There is no harm in accepting donations intended for God’s work,” Mechumo said.

Meanwhile, President Ruto called for an end to the recent tensions between the clergy and government officials following the rejection of his donation to the Soweto Catholic Church.
The tensions erupted after the church rejected and vowed to refund KSh 5.6 million donated and pledged by the president, citing contravention of the church’s directives on gifts.
During an interdenominational service in Kimana, Kajiado South, on Sunday, December 1, Ruto emphasised the need for peace and harmony and urged state officials and religious leaders to set aside their differences and work together to move Kenya forward.
