MP intervenes after the principal locks female students out of school at night due to unpaid fees.
An incident at St. Anne’s Girls Secondary School in Makadara on Tuesday night, January 7, sparked outrage after students were reportedly locked out of the school due to unpaid fees.
The students were stranded outside the school gate for several hours before the matter drew widespread condemnation on social media.
“We’ve been sitting here since 10 am. I’ve paid half of the school fees, and I come from far. They’re demanding around KSh 26,000. Yet, even if you pay half, they still won’t let you in. So, what’s the point of even paying that half? We’ve been here all day, and we haven’t eaten anything since morning,” one student said.
In social media posts, concerned residents raised the alarm, prompting intervention from area Member of Parliament George Aladwa.
In an update, the MP noted that he had dispatched his team to the school and had asked the school management to let the students in.
“Following reports that some students at St. Anne’s Girls Secondary School were left stranded outside the premises, I immediately dispatched my team to assess the situation.
“I have since instructed the school management to grant access to the students, and I am pleased to confirm that the situation has now been resolved, with all students safely inside the school. Parents are kindly advised to remain patient and refrain from any further concerns at this time,” he said.

Notably, the situation drew public outrage, with Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the school’s principal.
“The Principal of St. Anne’s Girls’ School in Makadara should be arrested and charged for doing this to the young girls. How do you lock students out of school when some travelled from as far as Garissa?” He posed.
Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu also weighed in on the matter stating, “The principal of St Anne’s Makadara you have shocked the Nation. Imagine being so insensitive and still having girls of high school age under your care. Thank you Hon Aladwa for intervening. It’s a sad day for the girl child.”
