Court summons Kenya Railways officials over demolition of Governor Wamatangi’s properties
The Environment and Land Court has summoned two senior officials of the Kenya Railways Corporation to appear before the court on June 25th for mitigation and sentencing after finding them guilty of contempt of court over the demolition of businesses linked to Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
In a ruling delivered by Justice Oscar Angote, the court found Kenya Railways Corporation Managing Director Philip Mainga and Acting Corporation Secretary Stanley Gitari guilty of deliberately disobeying interim court orders issued on March 11, 2026.
The orders had barred any interference with the disputed property pending the hearing and determination of the case.

Despite the existing court directives, structures standing on the contested land were demolished, prompting legal action by Superclean Shine Enterprises Limited and King Prime International Limited.
Justice Angote ruled that the two officials acted in defiance of the court orders and directed them to appear in court on June 25, 2026 for mitigation and sentencing.
The court also extended the interim orders earlier issued, maintaining protection over the disputed property until the matter is fully heard and determined.
The petitioners argue that the demolitions caused significant losses and were carried out unlawfully despite clear court protections being in place.
