The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) has flagged four institutions offering nursing courses without the approval of the council.
In a statement on Wednesday, September 18, NCK disclosed that Northlands International Medical Training College, Tabaka School of Health Sciences in Mosocho, Topmax Training College, and the Global Medical Training College (GMTC) were offering the courses without the necessary approval.
The council advised the public that it is the sole authority responsible for approving nursing and midwifery training programs in Kenya.
According to NCK, any program offered without the approval of the council is not recognized and does not meet the required standards of professional practice.
“Any course offered without Nursing Council of Kenya’s (NCK) approval is not recognized and does not meet the required standards of training and professional practice,” NCK stated.

At the same time, the council warned that those found offering nursing training courses without approval will face the law.
“The Council wishes to draw your attention to Section 21 of the Nurses and Midwives Act CAP 257 Laws of Kenya, which stipulates that any person conducting nursing training courses without Council approval, upon conviction, is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand shillings, imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both,” NCK remarked.
NCK urged students and parents to verify the accreditation of any institution before enrolling in any nursing or midwifery program.
“For a list of approved institutions and programs as of 30th August 2024, please visit our official website via https://nckenya.com/approved-training-institutions/,” NCK explained.
