Justice Grace Nzioka says she’s proud of her work days after sentencing Jowie to death
High Court judge Grace Nzioka says has no regrets over her work and the reactions to the outcome of the high-profile cases she handles have never frightened her
Justice Grace Nzioka once again thrust into the limelight after handling the Monica Kimani murder case whose verdict she delivered on March 13, 2024.
Nzioka hit the headlines for the first time in 2013 when she was carjacked in Nairobi.
Appearing for a KTN News interview days after her intriguing judgment on the foregoing murder case, the judge restated her commitment to justice dispensation.
She said she has no regrets about her work and would like to be around the corridors of justice for the long it would take her.
Nzioka revealed that she gets fulfilment out of handling court cases.
“If you asked me I would tell you that I would like to continue working there because it is work I’m committed to and I am happy doing it. I have never seen it as daunting work. Like any other job, you get to learn a lot while doing it,” she said.
She further explained that the nature of her work has never instilled fear in her.

Responding to whether she is concerned about her security, Nzioka said she walks head-high despite the weight of some cases she has handled.
According to her, the fact that she has never been unjust to anyone gives her peace.
“I have never feared a single day. I walk like a civilian because I am confident about my work. I have never been unjust to anyone. I have never locked myself in the house for fear of being attacked over a judgment. Plus our protection is not only by human beings but also from God,” she said.
Nzioka informed a national debate after sentencing Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu to death for the murder of Kimani.
Among the people to question her judgment was Lawyer Miguna Miguna who argued that the death penalty is not applicable in Kenya and in the modern society.
Justice Gravce Nzioka confined Jowie’s punishment to three sentences while ruling out a non-custodial sentence.
