The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is in talks with Kenya Kwanza to establish proper terms of engagement with the governing coalition, party Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen has revealed.
According to Ong’wen, ODM has not yet joined President William Ruto’s government as perceived by many people as talks have just begun to find a way in which they can engage effectively going forward.
He stated that they decided to begin the talks because they could not join the government without any structured form of engagement.
The ODM party’s Executive Director made the remarks at a funeral in Alego/Usonga constituency where he assured members that the party will ensure that the engagement is structured in a manner that will be beneficial to all Kenyans.

Ong’wen also clarified that Azimio leader Raila Odinga is still the party leader of ODM, noting that Kisumu governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o will only be holding brief and chairing the party meetings should Odinga succeed in the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson elections in 2025.
He also defended the party’s decision to pick on Nyong’o, saying he is the most experienced and loyal member who cannot interfere with the party in the absence of Odinga.
The Executive Director stated that they had learnt a lesson when Ford Kenya party was hijacked when its leader and founder the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga passed on in 1994.
