Police in Migori County are probing the death of a boy aged 17 years, who is said to have killed himself few hours after he was blocked from selling his father’s cow at a cattle auction at Mawini village.

Nyamaharaga sub-location Assistant chief Rose Ooko said the body of the deceased was found hanging with a rope inside a bush a few hours after he was blocked from selling the cow without the father’s national identification card.

After realizing that he could not sell the cow without the father’s national identification card, Ooko said the deceased asked the cattle auction management to allow him rush home and bring the document but he never returned.

She said the body was later found hanging on a rope.

The area assistant chief said they are yet to know what might have compelled the boy to take his life.

She questioned if the boy killed himself for fear that his father would take disciplinary action against him for attempting to sell the cow without his authority.

The body of the deceased is preserved at Migori County Level Four Hospital mortuary pending autopsy and police investigations.

The suicide death comes amid concern over rising cases of suicide in the county.
