Government bans alcohol in all public beaches during the Christmas season
Kenya Maritime Authority in collaboration with the police bans alcohol in all public beaches during the Christmas season.
All public beaches now have alcohol bans in place, along with other measures designed to reduce nighttime activities near the Indian Ocean.
In addition, the Kenya Maritime Authority has identified hotspot regions that are vulnerable to security concerns and drowning incidents in partnership with security authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
As a result of the new restrictions that limit night activities along the coastlines of the Indian Ocean, anyone wishing to host an event during the night must receive authorization from the Beach Management Unit.
Notable locations include Jomo Kenyatta Public Beach, popularly known as Pirates, Shell Beach in Likoni, and the Ferry crossing channel.
The authorities have also identified spots like Diani and Shimoni beaches in Kwale County, Malindi Marine Park in Kilifi County, and Shella Beach in Lamu County.

Enhanced security surveillance and the presence of emergency response teams, including ambulances on standby, are part of the measures to handle any eventuality, and security personnel have been deployed to secure all recreational facilities along the coast.
“We have a tourist police unit within the premises of the beach which is accessible and which will be open 24 hours so members of the public, in case somebody has an issue, let it be reported there, and we intend to have an to have an information desk that will be operated by the multi-agency,” said the spokesperson as reported by NTV.
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and police established an information desk, and the Kenya Red Cross was listed as a component of the multi-agency security team.
With the arrival of holidaymakers and their plans to enjoy the coastal region, these new laws represent a commitment to public safety and a secure beach environment for all beachgoers.
