Parents are the biggest problem in examinations; PS Kipsang

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has claimed that parents are the biggest problem in examinations

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has claimed that parents are the biggest problem in examinations.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has blamed parents over the increased number of malpractices in the ongoing national examinations.

Speaking in a press briefing on Thursday, November 14, in Nyeri County, Kipsang stated that some parents allowed their children to carry mobile phones to school, something that aided in examination cheating.

The PS claimed that cases of mobilization of resources to compromise examination officials mostly involved parents.

“Our biggest problem in our examinations are we adults, the parents in most cases. Because when you hear people saying there’s mobilization of resources to compromise our staff, the people who are mobilizing the resources are not our staff, it is we as parents,” Kipsang remarked.

The PS wondered why the parents would want to compromise examinations after giving their children an opportunity to study in school.

“And why are we mobilising resources to try to compromise our examinations if we have given an opportunity to our children to be in school for four years?” Kipsang posed.

At the same time, the PS disclosed that the number of students who are doing examinations in hospitals due to delivery increased this year.

“Compared to last year during our examination time, the numbers of kids who did their exam in the hospital this year went up. And that is an indication that we must be able to deal with our social environment. There must be some hygiene in our homes because most of these pregnancies don’t happen in school,” Kipsang stated.

His remarks come after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba declared that exam malpractices will be handled on individual basis.
