The Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has resigned.
Koome’s resignation has been announced by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed in a statement to newsrooms.
In a statement on Friday, July 12 State House, Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed said President William Ruto accepted Koome’s resignation.

“His Excellency Hon. William Samoei Ruto, Ph.D, CGH, President and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, has on this 12th day of July, 2024, accepted the resignation of Eng. Japheth N. Koome, MGH, as the Inspector General of the National Police Service,” read the statement in part.
President William Ruto has appointed Eliud Langat as the Acting Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service.
Ruto has further appointed James Kamau as the Acting Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service.
