LSK President demands investigations after nine bodies are retrieved from Kware dumpsite near a police station.

At least nine bodies have been retrieved from the Kware dumpsite near Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Nairobi.

According to reports, the bodies were well-wrapped in sacks and black polythene bags and later tied with ropes.

“We have managed to retrieve nine bodies so far but we can still see more others in the quarry. They are all of young adults,” a Haki Africa activist, Fredrick Onjiro said.

Some of the bodies had visible severe injuries although it wasn’t immediately established if they had bullet wounds owing to the state of the bodies.

The incident has attracted large crowds with locals milling the area as more police officers arrive.

The grim scene unfolded near Kware Police Station, just opposite Pipeline, where police have been actively involved in the ongoing retrieval efforts.

Despite their presence, the identities of the deceased remain a mystery, and details surrounding the circumstances of their deaths are yet to be clarified.

The lack of information has intensified fears within the local community, leaving residents grappling with uncertainty.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, compelling many to turn their gaze toward law enforcement for answers.

The bodies have been moved to the City mortuary in Nairobi, as the search gets underway.

Meanwhile, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhiambo has called for investigations saying it was unacceptable for people to be killed and dumped in a quarry.

“We need investigations to be done! Unacceptable,” said the LSK President.

This comes days after the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) disclosed that 39 people have died and 361 injured as of July 1, 2024, since the nationwide anti-finance bill protests began.

In a press statement, KNCHR Chairperson Roseline Odede said that they have recorded 32 cases of abductions.

“Data from our records indicates that thirty-nine (39) people have died and three hundred and sixty-one (361) injured in relation to the protests countrywide. This is cumulative data from 18th June 2024 to 1st July 2024,” KNCHR stated.

The dead are from Nairobi (17), Nakuru (3), Laikipia (1), Narok (1), Kajiado (3), Uasin Gishu (4), Kakamega (1), Kisumu (2), Kisii (1), Mombasa (3), Siaya (1), Kiambu (1) and Nandi (1).
